Nanometrics appoints Papken Der Torossian to board

September 11, 2001 – Milpitas, CA – Nanometrics Inc., a supplier of advanced integrated and stand alone metrology equipment for the semiconductor industry, has appointed Papken Der Torossian to its board of directors.

“We welcome Papken’s return to our board of directors. He brings decades of experience in the semiconductor equipment industry and his expertise will play an instrumental part in guiding Nanometrics to continued growth,” said Vincent Coates, chairman of the board of Nanometrics.

Der Torossian joined Silicon Valley Group as president in 1984 and acted as CEO from 1986 until the company merged with ASML this year. Prior to joining Silicon Valley Group, he was president of ECS Microsystems and president of the Santa Cruz Division of Plantronics, where he also served as vice president to the Telephone Products Group. Previous to that, he spent four years at Spectra-Physics and 12 years with Hewlett-Packard in a variety of management positions. Der Torossian holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.

Der Torossian currently serves on the board of directors for Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group and ANTS Software Inc., and has previously served on the boards of numerous other public and private companies, including Nanometrics. He is chairman of the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International Environmental, Health & Safety Committee and an active member of the Band of Angels, a Silicon Valley group that invests and guides early round venture investments.
