New Intel Plant Opens

October 18, 2001 — SANTA CLARA, CA — Intel Corp. recently opened Fab 22, a new dedicated high-volume 0.13 micron manufacturing facility in Chandler, Arizona that features 133,000 square feet of cleanroom space.

The $2 million plant will be used to produce microprocessors based on 0.13 micron process technology on 200 mm wafers.

“Intel’s 0.13 micron process means each chip has more, smaller and faster transistors, which increases the performance while requiring less power at lower cost per die,” said Robert Baker, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Technology and Manufacturing Group.

The facility is located near the existing Fab 12, on the company’s 705-acre Ocotillo campus in Chandler. As part of the Fab 22 project, the company also completed a 320,000 square foot manufacturing support building and a 123,000 square foot central utility building. More than 1,000 engineers, technicians and support people have been hired to work at the new facility.
