Sanyo to consolidate four semiconductor subsidiaries

October 3, 2001 – Tokyo, Japan – Sanyo Electric Co. will consolidate four semiconductor assembly subsidiaries in April 2002.

Sanyo will integrate Kanto Sanyo Electronics Co. of Gunma Prefecture, Hanyu Sanyo Electronics Co. of Saitama Prefecture, Sanyo Silicon Electronics Co. of Tochigi Prefecture, and Fukushima Sanyo Electronics Co. of Fukushima Prefecture.

In addition to reducing management costs by combining the administrative functions of the four companies, the move will enable Sanyo to revamp assembly facilities to increase production efficiency.

The new entity will have about 2,800 employees and is expected to generate sales of 140 billion yen in its first year of operation.
