Millipore Gets Sterile Transfer Technology for New System

November 13, 2001 — BEDFORD, MA — Millipore Corporation has acquired technology from Livingston, NJ-based IC Technology that allows for the sterile transfer of materials in cleanrooms and barrier isolators.

Millipore is using the technology in its SafePass Sterile Transfer System, which consists of a transfer port with a patented UV sterilizing source that provides access to a barrier isolator or cleanroom. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Sterile processing is critical to producing biotherapeutics, and our goal is to provide a total solution to that application,” said Susan Vogt, president of Millipore’s biopharmaceutical division. “Sterile transfer of materials into barrier isolators and cleanrooms is part of sterile processing, and IC Technology has developed some innovative technology to do this”

Officials say key benefits of the system include speed, flexibility and convenience.
