Pistorio feted for leadership, green initiatives

Nov. 9, 2001-Geneva, Switzerland – STMicroelectronics President and CEO Pasquale Pistorio was honored this week with the Arizona State University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) Award for his contributions to the engineering profession, the university, and society at-large.

The award specifically recognized Pistorio for his efforts in building STMicro into a semiconductor-manufacturing powerhouse. The company is now ranked sixth among the top 10 semiconductor companies, with 2000 sales totaling $7.8 billion. The award also highlighted Pistorio’s staunch advocacy of environmental protection. At STMicroelectronics he has been responsible for inspiring and introducing a wide-ranging program of environmental initiatives. His peers in the industry have nicknamed Pistorio the ‘environmental evangelist’.

Pistorio is the award’s third recipient. Gary Tooker, ASU Class of ’63 and former Motorola CEO and chairman of the board of directors, was the first recipient of this award. Tooker presented Pistorio’s nomination to Arizona State’s college executive committee.
