Jan. 7, 2002 – Hong Kong – Motorola Inc. said it will cut 700 to 800 jobs at its Hong Kong semiconductor test and assembly facility and shift production to its plants in Kuala Lumpur and Tianjin.
A spokeswoman for Motorola said the jobs will be eliminated by the end of this year, and that Motorola will still have about 700 semiconductor jobs in Hong Kong following the cuts, reported Reuters.
“The rationale is really just to consolidate our manufacturing in a few places,” said spokeswoman Gloria Shiu.
