Chipmakers plan JV

March 19, 2002 -Tokyo, Japan – Japanese electronics makers Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. plan to bring together a part of their computer chip operations under a single brand to boost profitability.

Hitachi and Mitsubishi plan to set up a joint venture in about a year to integrate their system LSI business in an effort to become the world’s top supplier in that field, reported the Associated Press .

Details of the agreement are still being worked out, the companies said.
