Philips strengthens presence in China

Mar. 1, 2002 – Sunnyvale, CA – Royal Philips Electronics has opened two new manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, China, to support the LCD and optical storage activities of its components division.

Located in the Wai Gao Qiao Free Trade Zone, the adjacent factories will maximize manufacturing efficiencies and quality, furthering the company’s ability to meet demand for its customer-driven integrated solutions for the digital consumer electronics, mobile telecommunications, PC-related and automotive infotainment sectors, the company said.

Philips has devoted considerable resources to expanding its presence in China. Optimally located near major suppliers and key technology partners, the new facilities are also in close proximity to several major universities, allowing Philips to draw from the local pool of technical and managerial talent.
