Plexus licenses Tessera technology

NEENAH, WIS. – Plexus Corp., an electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider, will be licensing Tessera's chip scale packaging (CSP) and multichip packaging (MCP) technology. This makes it the first EMS company to license Tessera's technology, according to Nicholas Colella, senior VP of operations at Tessera.

Bob Kronser, VP of technology and strategy for Plexus, sees the technology as a competitive advantage in the contract manufacturing arena. “Tessera's advanced packaging technology and expertise will enable our customers to bring products they previously thought impossible to market quickly,” said Kronser. The product areas where Plexus sees applications of Tessera's technology include medical devices, implantables, optical components, and wireless communications. Tessera's Colella described the agreement as a chance for Tessera to get into the product development cycle earlier. This should allow the design of end products to take better advantage of CSP technologies.
