Applied Gene gets patent for microarray probes

June 5, 2002 — Applied Gene Technologies Inc. said it has received a patent for DNA microarray probes that improve gene analysis, according to a news release.

The probes, which contain hairpin structures for detecting sequences of genes, are designed to make microarrays more simple and flexible to use and bring costs down.

Applied Gene said it will partner with companies that specialize in automated DNA microarray analyses for pharmacogenomics and single nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPs, which determine variation in genetic sequences.
