June 7, 2002 – Hsinchu, Taiwan – Chip foundries Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and United Microelectronics Corp. plan to hire a combined 6,500 new employees in 2002.
TSMC expects to hire an additional 3,500 people this year, of which two thirds would be engineering and management staff, a company official said. The rest will work on the foundry’s production lines, reported Dow Jones.
UMC plans to hire a total of 3,000 people in 2002.
