Aug. 26, 2002 – Hsinchu, Taiwan – Chip packager APTOS Corp. will acquire the LCD drive IC assembly lines from Siliconware Precision Industries Co. Ltd. and Kyec Yuan Electronics Co. Ltd. for NT$600 million (US$17.6 million).
APTOS will buy 10 tape carrier packaging (TCP) lines from Siliconware and testing equipment from Siliconware and Kyec Yuan, reported the Financial Times. The purchases will enable APTOS to provide integrated services from gold bumping to TCP packaging and testing.
ATPOS is forecast to be able to package three million chips with TCP technology and test 14 million chips/month after the acquisition.
APTOS is a joint venture between UMC and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., a Taiwanese independent manufacturer. The venture provides gold bump and copper interconnect IC packaging services.
