Environmentalist opposes nano ban

Aug. 15, 2002 — Douglas Mulhall, author of the book, “Our Molecular Future,” opposes calls for a ban on nanotechnology research. A ban was recently proposed by the ETC Group of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“Such a ban may stop research on solar cells that replace polluting fuels,” Mulhall said in a news release. “Environmentalists risk shooting themselves in the head by restricting manufacturing in this way.” Mulhall called on environmentalists to start their own initiatives “by using nanomaterials to help the ecology.”
