Biolog gets Japanese microarray patent

Sept. 17, 2002 — Biolog Inc. said it has received a Japanese patent for its microarray technology.

The patent, which applies to the company’s MicroLog microbiology identification and characterization products as well as its new Phenotype MicroArray technology, is granted for testing Biolog’s device for liquid and liquid-suspended samples. It brings the number global patents related to the technology to 18, the company said in a news release.

The Hayward, Calif.-based company said the technology will be applied to high-throughput screening of chemical compounds against cells, which could solve critical problems in clinical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology research and development.
