MEMSCAP launches fab’s first MEMS

Sept. 11, 2002 — MEMSCAP Inc. said it has begun shipping samples of photonic switches and variable optical attenuators for metro and access levels of optical networks.

The samples, which are being evaluated by the French firm’s customers, are the first products out of its fully automated, high-volume MEMS fab in Bernin, France. The facility is deploying high-volume batch manufacturing processes to enable repeatability for high yields, according to a company news release.
