Transparent Networks, SMI sign foundry pact

Sept. 5, 2002 — Transparent Networks said it has signed a MEMS foundry services deal with Silicon Microstructures Inc. (SMI).

SMI, a subsidiary of Elmos Semiconductor AG, will provide fabrication for Transparent Network’s MEMS for integrated photonic switches. The work will be done at a Silicon Valley fab SMI recently acquired, according to a news release.

SMI said it plans to upgrade and expand the facility as well as achieve QS-9000 certification, and internationally recognized manufacturing standard.
