Oct. 2, 2002 — Biolog Inc. said it licensed its microarray technology to The Institute for Genomic Research to further its understanding of microbial cell function.
Biolog, a privately held firm based in Hayward, Calif., said its Phenotype MicroArray technology allows scientists to test hundreds or thousands of cellular traits simultaneously. The two most important near-term applications are determining the effect and response in living cells to genetic changes and exposure to drugs and chemicals, according to a company news release.
As part of the deal, Biolog and the Maryland-based nonprofit institute will share intellectual property rights from new discoveries based on the technology. They have agreed to license any discoveries with potential commercial applications, the release said.
