Oct. 17, 2002 — DataPlay Inc., a Boulder, Colo. manufacturer of digital media and drives for the consumer electronics market, has shut its doors, according to a former employee and a report in the Rocky Mountain News. DataPlay’s drives employ micromachined optical heads.
All employees were terminated, according to the former employee. The company employed approximately 100 people worldwide. DataPlay had raised $120 million in financing, but was unable to attain further financing during the summer, when it initially laid off about half its staff of more than 200.
The report said DataPlay is looking for a buyer of either the company or its technology. Calls placed to company headquarters were greeted with an automated attendant that does not take messages.
