Oct. 25, 2002 — NanoBioMagnetics Inc. said it has received $118,000 from the National Institutes of Health to research and develop nanoparticles for a new generation of implantable hearing devices.
The goal is to reduce the size of the devices and increase their efficiency through magnetically responsive, biocompatible nanoparticles. The firm expects to incorporate the materials into a device that will be implanted under the eardrum in a simple clinical procedure, according to a news release.
The Oklahoma City-based firm intends to work on the project with the Hough Ear Institute, also of Oklahoma City. The institute will provide help and its research center in the design and testing of the new components, the release said.
NanoBioMagnetics is also researching the application of nanotechnology for drug-delivery systems.
