Nanosphere signs deal for biowarfare detection

Oct. 4, 2002 — Nanosphere Inc. said it has signed a contract with the U.S. government to apply its biomolecular detection system to biological warfare agents.

The deal, signed with the U.S. Government Technical Support Working Group, calls for Nanosphere to develop its current platform into a portable detection system that will test water samples from thousands of water sources. Financial details were not disclosed, according to a news release.

Nanosphere’s system, which uses gold nanoparticle probe technology, will be refined to meet the contract’s criteria, including accuracy specifications and the usability of the system by people without molecular biology expertise, the release said.
