Nanosys licenses technology from scientific founder

Oct. 22, 2002 — Nanosys Inc. said it has signed an exclusive license agreement for a broad set of nanotech patents from Paul Alivisatos, the firm’s scientific founder and director of the molecular foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

The patents cover nanocrystals, nanorods and nanotetrapods, and other nano-based advances. Two near-term applications include lightweight computer displays and solar cells, according to a news release.

Nanosys announced earlier this year the signing of licensing deals with Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Regents of the University of California.
