Changes at NEC
Nov. 1, 2002 – Santa Clara, CA – NEC Electronics Inc. has announced that it has changed its name to NEC Electronics America Inc. as part of the launch of its parent company, NEC Electronics Corporation.

Earlier, NEC Corporation separated its semiconductor business into a new, wholly owned global company, NEC Electronics Corporation. The new company will specialize in semiconductor products encompassing advanced technology solutions for the broadband and communications markets; system solutions for the mobile, PC, automotive and digital consumer markets; and platform solutions for a wide range of customer applications.

NEC Electronics America Inc. is NEC Electronics Corporation’s wholly owned subsidiary in North America and will develop, manufacture, market and sell the company’s solutions to customers in the US, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, NEC Electronics America will be the exclusive sales supplier of NEC active-matrix liquid crystal display and plasma display panel modules in North America.

Toshio Nakajima, former president and CEO of NEC Electronics Inc., will serve as president and CEO of NEC Electronics America Inc. “This is a very exciting time for NEC Electronics America,” said Mr. Nakajima. “Moving forward, our customers will benefit from faster decision-making, more focused product and solutions development, and greater ability to anticipate and meet their requirements. In addition, we will continue to have a strong presence in the non-PC and industrial LCD and PDP markets.”
