Nov. 12, 2002 — Tire pressure monitoring and global positioning systems are among the areas spurring billion-dollar growth for MEMS sensors, according to a new report.
The North American MEMS sensor market is expected to grow from $1.3 billion in 2001 to $3 billion in 2008, according to Frost & Sullivan. Widespread use of MEMS-based sensors in aerospace and defense and industrial process control underscore the industry’s emerging status, according to news release.
The report, part of a larger effort by Frost & Sullivan to analyze sensor markets, also said support from U.S. government agencies and departments, such as NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is rapidly expanding market opportunities.
