DEC. 10–IRVINE, Calif.–Newport Corp. has opened of a 42,000-square-foot optics manufacturing facility to for the company’s growing Newpport Precision Optics (NPO) Business.
The facility is part of Newport’s $16.3 million investment in the precision optics business and will support the manufacture of standard and very high precision optic products.
“It features a unique manufacturing layout and configuration, and includes tightly controlled environments to ensure particulate, temperature, and humidity levels consistent with manufacturing very high precision optical components and thin film coatings,” says Robert J. Phillippy, vice president and general manager of Newport’s Industrial & Scientific Technologies Division.
Over the last three years Newport has expanded its optical manufacturing capability to become a global provider of precision optics to the semiconductor equipment, medical, aerospace and scientific markets.
The precision optics product line includes devices such as collimators, beam expanders and spatial filters as well as optical components including spherical optics, aspheric optics, windows, mirrors, beam splitters, prisms, polarized filters, lenses and high performance thin film coatings for spectral ranges from 157nm DUV to Infrared wavelengths.
Capabilities including computerized shaping, aspheric polishing, diamond turning, deterministic finishing, and ion assisted coating have positioned Newport as a leader in the production of high-performance optics for OEM and end user applications. Newport optical technology can now be found on the production line and in equipment for the semiconductor equipment, biomedical, telecom/datacom, photonics, metrology, and aerospace/defense markets.
