Intense Photonics adds more cleanroom space

JAN. 20–HIGH BLANTYRE, Scotland–Intense Photonics has added 1,000 square feet of cleanroom space at its Scottish semiconductor fabrication facility for more optoelectronic life test, assembly and packaging development.

Equipped with a full suite of assembly and test tools including GSI Lumonics’ latest galvo-laser welder systems, the expansion completes the semiconductor production capability at the organization’s High Blantyre site.

The High Blantyre facility will continue to house device design, device modeling and volume manufacturing of its advanced compound semiconductor chips.

“We remain committed to our policy of outsourced packaging and assembly for volume manufacture. This expansion enables the first level of assembly and test to be co-located with the fabrication facility, allowing rapid feedback of product performance”, says Chief Operating Officer Keith Henderson.

Robert Crawford, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, adds that he is delighted to see a Scottish-based high technology company continuing to invest and develop despite the highly challenging technology market.

“We have worked closely with Intense Photonics from its beginning, and Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire continues to support the company as it moves into a new and exciting phase of its development,” he says.
