Intense Photonics expands capabilities

Jan. 23, 2003 — Intense Photonics Ltd., a High Blantyre, Scotland, developer of photonic integrated circuits, announced that it has added 1,000 square feet of clean room to its semiconductor fabrication facility, according to a company news release.

The expansion will enable Intense Photonics to fully qualify its products in-house. The company will outsource packaging and assembly but can now perform the first level of assembly and testing in its fab. “The ability to rapidly prototype, on site, fully packaged parts for test and evaluation is a key part of our product development cycle,” said David Lockwood, chief executive officer, in the release.

Intense Photonics uses a technique called quantum well intermixing, which the company says allows it to fabricate multiple optical functions on a chip in a single processing stage.
