Jan. 22, 2003 — Microvision Inc., a Bothell, Wash., developer of MEMS-based light scanning technologies, announced it has signed two agreements for development of automotive display prototypes, according to a company news release.
One is with a major European automotive company to develop an information display to be demonstrated in the spring. The other is with a tier-one auto supplier for an instrument panel solution that will be displayed this quarter.
Chief Executive Rick Rutkowski said in the release that the company is gratified to be working with two of Europe’s leading automakers. Microvision previously demonstrated a projection-based entertainment display in a BMW 7 Series sedan.
The company is best known in the MEMS industry for its wearable Nomad display that writes an image directly onto the wearer’s retina using a laser directed by a MEMS mirror. However, the technology can also be used like a miniature projector to display entertainment or dashboard content for drivers and passengers.
