Ryder to streamline Applied Materials’ supply chain

Jan. 6–MIAMI, Fla.–Supply chain and transportation management company Ryder System says it will work with Santa Clara, Calif.-based Applied Materials to streamline wafer tool maker’s supply chain management operations in Austin, Texas.

Joseph R. Bronson, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Applied Materials, said outsourcing the operations to Ryder also gives the company greater flexibility to align its operations with the changing requirements of its customers. He did not give financial details of the contract with Ryder.

Ryder’s responsibilities include coordinating and picking up components from suppliers and warehousing and delivering cleanroom-certified products directly into the air-lock of Applied Materials’ manufacturing facilities. Ryder said it is also responsible for managing Applied Materials’ 288,000-square-foot staging facility, which has an inventory of more than 40,000 parts.
