Feb. 28, 2003 — Blacksky Corp., a Carlsbad, Calif.-based maker of consumer model rockets, has chosen MEMSIC Inc.’s dual-axis MEMS sensor in a precision event timer, according to a news release.

Blacksky said the accelerometer, which replaces an older, more expensive version, allows it to adjust the sensitivity of the timer to trigger at different levels of acceleration. The device also provides a digital output that can be directly connected to a microprocessor, the release said.

MEMSIC, based in Andover, Mass., makes MEMS sensors using standard semiconductor processes. The company’s technology is based on heat convection and has no mechanical or moving parts, which eliminates components from sticking.
