Nanophase officer to retire

Feb. 24, 2003 — Donald Freed, vice president of business development at Nanophase Technologies Corp. will retire at the end of the month.

Freed, 60, said in a written statement that he has agreed to help the company find a replacement and ensure a smooth transition. Nanophase spokeswoman Nancy Baldwin said he also would provide consulting.

“He’s just a really smart guy in nanotech — he’s got a lot of information, knowledge and contacts,” she said. “These are the kinds of things we’re going tap into him for.”

Freed, who has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University, joined Nanophase in 1995 as vice president of marketing and was promoted to his current role in 1998. He also has held similar positions for AMP Inc., GTE Corp., Chemical Industries PLC and Bell Laboratories.
