Feb. 19, 2003 — Seki Technotron USA has installed and successfully tested a new system for developing carbon nanotubes at Purdue University, according to a news release.
The microwave plasma enhanced chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) system, part of the Seki-ASTeX series, is designed for developing nanotubes and diamond films for basic research and commercial prototyping. CVD, one of several methods for making nanotubes, involves breaking apart a carbon-containing gas as it passes over a heated substrate. The carbon re-forms into tubes.
Seki, located in Sunnyvale, Calif., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based Seki Technotron. The public company specializes in programs based on defense electronics, communication and radar systems, satellite communication and measurement instrumentation.
