Feb. 10, 2003 — A University of Texas at Dallas electrical engineering professor has received a $250,000 award from the Chinese government to establish a microelectronics program at Fudan University in Shanghai.
Dian Zhou said he hopes the Chang Jiang Scholar Award from China’s Ministry of Education will benefit both universities. He will continue to teach in Dallas while spending summer months in Shanghai, according to a news release.
As part of the award, Zhou will be furnished a laboratory at Fudan that will employ as many as a dozen students and assistants. He also will help develop the Fudan Zhangjiang Institute, whose goal is to promote the growth of the microelectronics industry in Shanghai.
