US Global installs nano-based cockpit door

March 6, 2003 — US Global Aerospace Inc. has installed nanomaterial-based cockpit door on an Airbus A320 as part of the final phase of a federal certification process, according to a news release.

The Guardian Anti-Ballistic Cockpit Security Door, was developed to comply with federal regulations for U.S.-registered commercial aircraft. It provides durability, strength and low weight because of the company’s G-Lam nanofiber material. The door also integrates energy absorbers and a passive vent system to provide ballistic and decompression protection to the flight crew while preventing unauthorized access to the cockpit, the release said.

US Global has launched G-Lam-based protection shields for military, police and security vehicles, and is developing commercial construction wall panels that offer protection from fire and explosions.
