Emerging industries and regulations to perk up particle monitoring market

APRIL 15–SAN JOSE, Calif. — Expected increase in investments due to growing interest in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology is stimulating the sales of particle counters and sizers worldwide.

The need for clean research environment in genomics, biological detection, and nanotechnology are also likely to boost demand.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan(www.testandmeasurement.frost.com), World Particle Counter and Particle Size Analyzer Market, reveals that this market generated revenues worth $389.64 million in 2002 and is likely to reach $644.29 million in 2009.

“The market is poised for growth in terms of both volume and revenues with additional investments expected from Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific regions,” say Frost & Sullivan Research Analysts Kiran Unni and Jessy Cavazos.

Regulations that govern different end-user industries across the world emphasize on high quality end products. As particle counters and sizers play an important role in the safety and quality of products in many industries, the demand for these instruments will increase substantially.

However, manufacturers that have been offering instruments to some of the industries that have been hit by the slowdown are facing the adverse impact of the downturn in these industries, especially that of semiconductor manufacturing.

“The ability of the manufacturers to develop application-specific products catering to the diverse requirements of various end-user industries will be the key to counter industry slowdown and increase revenues,” says Unni.

Manufacturers are also seeking growth opportunities in the untapped Asia Pacific markets due to the declining demand in other regions.

“Top market participants are trying to extend their product portfolio to gain market share within the industry as well as cater to a diverse range of end-user industries,” says Cavazos. “As a result, the market is characterized by consolidation, mergers and acquisitions. This will reduce the number of market participants leading to intense competition.”

Due to the availability of multiple techniques, end users are often confused in selecting the method best suited for correct interpretation of particle size and characterization. Therefore, creating customer awareness should be the top priority for manufacturers.
