NanoSight licenses IP to Smiths Detection

April 30, 2003 — NanoSight Ltd., a new U.K.-based developer of nanoscale imaging tools, has licensed patented technology for biothreat detection, according to a company news release.

Smiths Detection, also based in England, gains worldwide exclusive use of NanoSight’s technology to develop rapid and cost-effective biohazard detection devices. NanoSight retains rights for other applications, such as quality control in manufacturing nanomaterials and virus detection, the release said.

NanoSight said its laser-based optical element can be attached to a conventional optical microscope and allows a user to visualize nanoparticles previously detectable only by electron microscopy.
