Sarcon, Sarnoff make thermal camera prototype

April 24, 2003 — Sarcon Microsystems Inc. and Sarnoff Corp. have developed a working prototype of a MEMS-based infrared (IR) detector engine for higher-performing, lower-cost thermal imaging cameras and other IR devices, according to a company news release.

The new engine demonstrates that it’s possible to fabricate MEMS-based IR imagers at the standard resolution for most commercial applications. The companies expect to have commercial samples by early next year, the release said.

Sarcon’s investors include Ardesta LLC, parent company of Small Times Media.
