May 8, 2003 – China’s Hainan University reportedly is first among the nation’s institutions of higher learning offering a major in nanomaterial science and technology, according to the People’s Daily Online.

The university said 40 students will enroll at Hainan’s Institute of Technology this year. The institute has conducted several nanoscience experiments and founded a research center for nanomaterials, the report said.
