May 27, 2003 – Tokyo, Japan – Fujitsu Ltd. has suspended production at its semiconductor-manufacturing plant in Iwate Prefecture after a fairly large earthquake jolted northeastern Japan on Monday, reported Yoshio Takahashi for Dow Jones.
A Fujitsu spokesman said operations at the plant remain suspended due to damage to piping and other equipment, but the company expects to know in a day or two when it will be able to restart operations at the plant.
The company has set up a task force that will decide when to restart operations at the plant or whether the company will need to transfer production to other domestic chip plants, the spokesman said.
