U.S. patent issued to Nanogen for nanofabrication

May 30, 2003 – Nanogen Inc. received a U.S. patent for electronic fabrication of micro and nanoscale devices, according to a news release.

The patent relates to methods to integrate components, such as light-emitting diodes for displays, integrated biosensors and micromechanical devices, into devices and structures. The technique involves moving components through fluids to a desired place on a substrate or motherboard through electronic self-assembly fabrication.

The electronic “pick-and-place” processes could lead to faster, cheaper and more complex devices, the release said. Nanogen, which develops molecular diagnostic products, is based in San Diego.
