DFJ invests in quantum computing company

June 13, 2003 — Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the Redwood City, Calif., venture capital firm, announced that it led a round of investing in D-Wave Systems Inc., a Vancouver, British Columbia, company aiming to develop a quantum computer. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.

Two Canadian firms, GrowthWorks Capital and the Business Development Bank of Canada also invested in the company.

The company’s initial focus will be the development of hardware for chip-based quantum computers. Yesterday, the company won the British Columbia Technology Industry Association’s “Most Promising Pre-Commercial Technology” award.
