Trio forges Thai chip R&D pact

June 30, 2003 – Marubeni Corp., Oki Electric Industry co., and NTT Advanced Technology Corp. have agreed to jointly develop a microchip R&D project funded by the Thai government.

The three companies will provide microchip manufacturing equipment and train engineers at the Thailand Microelectronic Center, part of the country’s Science and Technology Ministry.

Thailand has some facilities for semiconductor manufacturing, but does not have the expertise needed for parts of the process involving circuit design, etching, and wiring technology.
