Digital Angel announces implantable chip order

July 30, 2003 — Digital Angel Corp., a South St. Paul, Minn., company that makes implantable tracking and location systems, announced the first order for its Bio-Thermo temperature-sensing implantable microchip for pets. The device eliminates the need for rectal temperature readings during routine veterinarian office visits, according to the company.

The order, for $100,000, comes from UK-based AnimalCare Ltd. The patent-pending chip has clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a news release. The company intends to launch the product outside the United Kingdom later this year.
