FEI makes microelectronic acquisitions

July 16, 2003 — FEI Co. has acquired a company and products to boost its efforts in microelectronics, according to a news release.

The Hillsboro, Ore.-based toolmaker for nanoscale applications is buying Revise Inc., a Burlington, Mass.-based maker of laser micromachining products. FEI said the technology from Revise could prove useful for future MEMS devices.

It also will acquire computer-aided design and semiconductor fab yield management software products from Electroglas Inc. of San Jose, Calif. That deal, worth $6 million, also includes Electroglas’ engineering operations in Mumbai, India.

FEI, which trades on Nasdaq, closed Tuesday at 21.98, up from 21.43 Monday.
