July 17, 2003 – Global Hauri has released new antivirus software targeting systems in vertical markets, including the semiconductor industry.
The company’s ViRobot for Industrial Systems eliminates and repairs viruses without requiring interruption, rather than quarantine them like most antivirus packages.
Global Hauri says that while semiconductor facilities typically are isolated from a company’s overall IT structure to minimize the impact of computer virii and cyber attacks, such problems are not uncommon. It cites the Fun Love Virus in 1999 which hit a major semiconductor manufacturer, bringing down 20 systems and taking over two days to clean out.
“Most semiconductor equipment runs on mission-critical proprietary applications,” said Eric Kwon, Global Hauri’s president and CEO. “The installation of regular consumer-based antivirus software would cause intermittent problems or even serious malfunction.”
