August 1, 2003 – ARM, Cambridge, UK, says that Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC), Shanghai, China, has joined its foundry program and licensed its ARM7TDMI microprocessor core, adding to ARM’s manufacturing support in the region.
SMIC is the first foundry in mainland China to join ARM’s foundry program. Other members from China include two tools distributors, three IC design partners and a training center.
The deal “significantly strengthens our support for customers in China,” said Jun Tan, president of ARM China, who sees “a great deal of innovation within the Chinese semiconductor market.”
