Aug. 6, 2003 — Caliper Technologies Corp. announced that it’s laying off 50 employees, or 9 percent of its staff, as part of its acquisition of Zymark Corp., according to a news release.
Caliper, which moved its headquarters in July to Zymark’s Hopkinton, Mass., headquarters, said workers there as well as Caliper’s facility in Mountain View, Calif., would be affected by the cuts. Most groups were included, but R&D will remain unchanged until the company performs a review later this year, the release said.
Officials said the cuts, which will result in a nearly $1 million restructuring charge this year, are part of the plan to save at least $10 annually and become profitable by the end of 2005.
Caliper, listed on Nasdaq, closed Wednesday at 4.89, down from 4.94 Tuesday.
