Sensant gets $500,000 for medical imaging

Aug. 18, 2003 — Sensant Corp. received a $500,000 federal grant to develop a new generation of MEMS sensors for medical imaging, according to a news release.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Science Foundation follows $100,000 in SBIR money awarded to Sensant in July 2002. The Phase II award will be focused on prototype development and commercialization.

The San Leandro, Calif.-based company said its technology will provide doctors with more useful diagnostic information, such as more clearly defined lesion boundaries and the ability to resolve smaller lesions and more detailed anatomy.
