Taiwan science park investments soar

August 18, 2003 – A total of 112 companies have received approval to invest a total of $32 million this year in the Southern Taiwan Science-based Industrial Park in Tainan, according to local officials.

Twenty-nine of the companies are optoelectronics companies, with 1H03 total sales of $1.03 billion — more than half of the $1.77 billion generated by the entire park. IC company tenants, including UMC and TSMC, have amassed $683.8 million in sales in 1H03.

Park officials expect that by the end of 2003, total sales in the park will have grown by more than 50% over 2002.
