Bookham buys New Focus

September 23, 2003 – Bookham Technology, Oxfordshire, UK, has agreed to acquire photonics and microwave systems provider New Focus, San Jose, CA, for approximately $190.5 million in an all-stock transaction.

The deal helps Bookham diversify its books by tripling its non-telecom business, adding semiconductors including KLA-Tencor and ASML. It also gives the company new manufacturing capabilities in China and a presence in Silicon Valley.
