Discera picks DALSA to make its MEMS

Sept. 25, 2003 – Discera Inc. has selected DALSA Semiconductor as its high-volume manufacturer for a suite of RF MEMS devices for mobile phones and other portable electronics products, according to a news release.

Waterloo, Ontario-based DALSA’s semiconductor foundry, which also makes MEMS devices, will first manufacture discrete versions of Discera’s microoscillator, the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based startup’s first product that is designed to replace multiple quartz-based devices. Customers are evaluating samples of Discera’s microresonators, which are integrated into the oscillator, and volume production is expected next year, the release said.

Discera’s lead investor is Ardesta LLC, parent company of Small Times Media.
